3 Ways The Pandemic Has Influenced Interior Design Trends

The pandemic has changed life as we know it in every way, but especially how we live in our homes. In a short period, the home has become a place to work, exercise, relax, and even attend school. This has been the single biggest influence on design trends this year.  Hi there, it’s Jenevieve Croall with JLUX Homes Realty Group and today I wanted to share with you a few ways the pandemic has influenced interior design trends.

#1: Open Floor Plans Are On The Way Out

While open floor plans aren’t falling entirely out of fashion, they’re no longer as practical and desirable as they once were.  Many of my clients still want big kitchens that open up to a family room—but they also want double home offices, outdoor spaces, and Zoom rooms. All of these are big on their lists. With all of the activities that we’re doing at home right now, it has truly become a game changer. Homeowners are wanting defined spaces again and some semblance of privacy and division for things like working from home, exercising and how to manage the entire family being home at the same time while trying to take those important calls. 

#2 Home Offices Are Now Just Offices

While some people have gone back to their regular offices, most of us are still working from home and have been told by their employers that this could be long term. Therefore, homeowners are finding It is important to make their at-home working environment aesthetically pleasing, clean, private and fully functional.  Additionally, many are carving out special spaces by rearranging furniture so that they can have dedicated area for their pets, because a lot of us are finding they are working side by side with their family’s best friend. 

#3 Happiness Is A Decorating Choice

It’s not a surprise that many people are trying to create uplifting moods & environments in their homes right now. This is especially true when it comes to decor and accessories. Maybe it’s a wallpaper with a vibrant pattern or a retro-inspired refrigerator. It is about furnishings that just bring you comfort and joy.  Additionally, after hunkering down looking at the same old wall color for months on end, homeowners are now incorporating bright and saturated wall colors, craving variety in their experiences at home!

Now that all being said, home is more important than ever and being forced to stay at home has made many of us realize just how important interior design really is.  Today many homeowners are now willing to invest more into making their home a sanctuary,  because let’s be honest …home is not only where the heart is…but now it’s  where everything is!
